Interview with NanoTheGlitch

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet NanoTheGlitch!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

I am 23 and from Australia. I am interested in computers and run my own IT company, and I also love animals.

How did you get started on your projects?

I just delved into the kit and started trying things till I learned how things worked. Asked questions in the discord and had a lot of trial and error

What is/has been your inspiration?

I just think about what I want in the game and then see if I can make it… if I can create an experience that I would like to play then I hope others will want to play it as well.

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

I have been a part of a few projects in the past, including working on Gaia, Eternal, Realm of the Forlorn, and a project with Nitrado.

NanoTheGlitch
NanoTheGlitch

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

I run my own IT company so I build/ fix computers as well as run servers, host databases, and do all sorts of networking for businesses.

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

Trial and Error. honestly if you aren’t sure just try it! you often end up coming to the solution if you keep trying

Do you have any plans or spoilers for your project you’d like to share?

To be honest I am unsure. I just get random ideas and see if I can make it.

Thanks

A great thanks to NanoTheGlitch for taking the time to talk to us and share his experiences!

Interview with CzS™ | ๖ۣۜHoʍєʀ

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet Thiago Ribeiro, also known as CzS™ | ๖ۣۜHoʍєʀ!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

I’m 41 years old and I’m from Brazil. I currently work with web development, but specifically with FrontEnd Development. I really like everything related to technology and everything about development.

How did you get started on your project?

After some unsuccessful contact attempts with a developer who abandoned his project that was well known and used by the community, I decided to start making my own with the same idea but with some improvements and new features, which was SeedFarm.

What is/has been your inspiration?

As I work with development, my biggest inspiration is knowledge and being able to start expanding everything I currently have difficulty learning, studying, and doing with something I like the most, the ARK. Learning to develop and create mods. People like prome, Psycho, Pikkon, and other great community developers have always been my inspirations and motivations. =)

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

At ARK, yes.

CZSBrasil
CZSBrasil

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

I’ve already done some mod customizations for CS:Source, CS:GO, and Team Fortress 2.

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

Resilience and always studying. Interacting with people who already have experience was the best way that always helped me.

SeedFarm

Seed Farm is a mod that allows you to plant all types of ARK resources. In it, there are different tiers and in each one, the seeds of resources are distributed. The better and rarer the resource, the greater the tier it is in.

This mod is still in the development stage. Some things in it can still be changed and many more are still to be added as development continues.

Do you have any plans or spoilers for your project you’d like to share?

I’ve been working on some new features for SeedFarm, one of them for a long time now, which would be a crop plot that works exactly the same as vanilla, but doesn’t need water and fertilizer. Currently, I managed to make a version but the graph still has a LOT of repeated things, and I believe my biggest challenge is to improve it in functions.

Anything you’d like to add?

I believe that’s it. I apologize for my English which is not very good.

Thanks

A great thanks to CzS™ | ๖ۣۜHoʍєʀ for taking the time to talk to us and share his experiences!

Interview with RedDwarf

Interview with RedDwarf

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet Dave, also known as RedDwarf!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

Hey there, I’m Dave. I’m 37 years old (get off my lawn, I see you), and I’m currently in my hometown of Austin, TX. I have an electrical engineering degree, but I spend most of my time programming instead of building circuits. =P

Hobbies are pretty typical nerd stuff: ARK, Modding, hosting D&D games, electronics projects, programming, etc. Met my wife while playing ARK, so I’ve got that going for me.

How did you get started on your project?

My wife and I played the first Christmas event several years ago, and we were devastated when all of our decorations disappeared when the event ended. So I created the first holiday mods for ARK. At first, I was just copying over all of the Wildcard assets, to make sure that the items could stay on the server until the owner wanted to end the event (or kept year-round if players liked their items), but then it grew into adding more and more content. Pretty much anything my wife and I enjoyed got added. Many of the current items are also based on feedback from players, etc.

What is/has been your inspiration?

Creatively, my inspiration mostly comes from things that make my wife and I laugh. “Oh, that needs to go into ARK immediately!”, etc. =)

The thing that inspired my first mod, Stackable Foundations, was just the frustration of building on sloped surfaces. That mod was later rolled into S+ (with my blessing), added to the base game when S+ was integrated, and then later added to Atlas — so I consider that a success. =D

My current project, ARK Hallows Eve, is inspired heavily by Harry Potter, Peanuts, and Army of Darkness.

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

I’ve done a bunch of random mods over the years, and I’ve got at least a dozen mods that are half-finished but will probably never be released. My projects fall into a few broad categories: Holiday mods, Quality of Life mods, and Very Silly mods (Rocket Poops, etc).

RedDwarf's Holiday Mods
RedDwarf’s Holiday Mods

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

I’ve done chip-level development/programming, Python, MatLab, SQL, etc. Like many ARK modders, I’m a programmer by day and a modder by night.

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

Just jump in and start. =) Find something really small that you want to change, and work on getting your first mod out. There’s a great ARK modding community discord that has years’ worth of modding discussions to search through, and that’s an invaluable resource for anybody just getting started.

RedDwarf’s Holiday Mods

Recently I’ve been putting most of my work into my holiday event mods, just because I enjoy the holidays. “ARK Hallows Eve” gets a vast majority of my time.

https://steamcommunity.com/workshop/filedetails/?id=1531545950

ARK Hallows Eve

This mod provides several new Halloween-themed items, costumes, decorations, buffs, creatures, etc.

Additionally, this mod contains most of the “Fear Evolved” content (which has been modified and expanded) so that players can decorate their bases for Halloween and goof off with their friends.

Items in this mod are meant to be spooky and fun, with heavy nods towards Harry Potter, Army of Darkness, Willy Wonka, the Peanuts Halloween Special, and Steven King’s “IT”.

Autumn Feast

This mod provides a fun and easy way to kill Super Turkeys, Dodos, Terror Birds, and Argents — and cooks them into giant feasts for your whole tribe! Collect feathers and wishbones to unlock the Chieftain Hat and the “Turkey” emote.

This mod also adds tamable/breedable regular turkeys (not the “super” turkeys) so that you can have turkey whenever you want.

Holiday Delight

Why farm mistletoe for weeks just to build a Christmas tree? Ho-ho-ho, that’s no good! Holiday Delight offers all of the cosmetic holiday event items in a single crafting station, for free! Create as many decorations as you’d like, and go crazy this holiday season.

The “Crafting Wreath” also serves as a music player! Listen to the “Winter Wonderland” theme while you decorate! Volume can be adjusted via config settings, or you can adjust the in-game music slider.

Do you have any plans or spoilers for your project you’d like to share?

I’m currently working on a big mod called “RPG Core”, which brings a lot of classic MMO-style elements to ARK. After this “Core” mod is released, I’ll be working on additional plugin modules “RPG Professions”, “RPG Loot”, etc.

Anything you’d like to add?

I’m really looking forward to ARK 2, and I hope it’s moddable as well. Thanks to WildCard for making such an addicting game, and ruining all my free time. =)

Thanks

Interview with Zythara

Interview with Zythara

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet Jordan, also known as Zythara!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

I am 28, from Alberta, Canada. I am a hardcore gamer and almost all of my hobbies are game-related. Either being board games, card games, or digital games.

How did you get started on your project?

Zytharian Critters originally started as a small project where I could collect all the models I was making for other mods like Ark Eternal. I figured since a large majority of people didn’t play overhauls like that, so having a vanilla-based version a lot of people would appreciate.

Zytharian Critters is a collection of creatures balanced around vanilla stats and gameplay.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1754846792

What is/has been your inspiration?

My inspiration doesn’t really come from the direct source material for my custom things, some of the ones like TEK and bone/skeletal creatures are definitely made to mimic the original ARK style and expand on that. Though my custom creatures just start from my fascination with Dragons and different types of surreal imagery. This is very prominent in a lot of the models that I have made that aren’t in the mod due to rig complications and needing to remake them from scratch to fit the new form.

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

This is my first personal ark project. Though as mentioned I was originally brought on as a 3D modeler to help with Ark Eternal, and then a few other projects after that.

Zytharian Critters
Zytharian Critters

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

The first modding that I ever did was actually for the early Pokemon games on Gameboy Ruby and Sapphire. And Halo 1, 2, and 3 on my Xbox/360. Both of these use modded systems and a mixture of programs from others or coded up from me and my friends.

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

Most particular to 3D modeling some of the best things that I have learned is that the game will hide a lot of the extreme details that you can do when sculpting unless you’re going to max out your texture budget. Which the game supports this it isn’t good practice for filesize. So when sculpting out your mesh be wary of how much time you spend directly into a single area vs what you will actually see of that in-game.

Do you have any plans or spoilers for your project you’d like to share?

Currently, for my mod I have a bunch of more TEK dinos coming for other users to experience, a new alien-based sound Wyvern, a few horror-based creatures (should I ever finish their animations), and then some elemental forms of existing creatures. I’ve always enjoyed how the Wyverns had their elemental forms fit and match well in the game and would like to see it on some of the more favored dinos like Rexes or personally Therizino.

Thanks

Interview with Amalgamaniac

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet Josh Crosby, also known as Amalgamaniac!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

I’m 29 from Mississippi. I’m a gamer, but I also love music, theater, and performing in general.

How did you get started on your projects?

I started out as a coder for a mod called PokeArk: Claw & Fang and I wanted to try and make my own mod.

What is/has been your inspiration?

I don’t really have a singular inspiration. I started out playing ARK: Survival Evolved with mods and I felt like putting my own spin on things as well.

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

This is my first solo ARK-related project (though, there’s plenty of collaboration), but my first ARK-related project was PokeArk: Claw & Fang. Since releasing ARK: Reclamation, I’ve also released ARK: Reclamation’s “Eerie Dinos” as well as a few more mods coming very soon,

ARK: Reclamation
ARK: Reclamation

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

None whatsoever.

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

You just need to dive into it feet first. Whether you’re already experienced in modding or have no experience whatsoever, modding is always a learning experience with everything you do.

ARK: Reclamation

Mentally, this mod has gone through many different revisions, but I think I finally settled on an approach that could be a jumping-off point for something BIG, so… Let’s all go on this journey together!

Some might think of this as another “dino overhaul” mod. Personally, I like to think it fills that niche between “vanilla-ish” and “balls-to-the-wall overhaul” that not a lot of mods like to occupy

The goal of this mod: To give a new use to creatures/dinos that don’t get enough live while also (subjectively) making the creatures/dinos you already love that much better. I’ll also be adding a lot of custom UE4 marketplace creatures to the mod along the way.

https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1989252120

Do you have any plans or spoilers for your project you’d like to share?

Everything I currently have planned is posted on ARK: Reclamation’s Discord.

Anything you’d like to add?

Stay tuned, because there’s PLENTY of new content to come for ARK: Reclamation.

Thanks

Interview with CrazyDemonicWolf

Interview with CrazyDemonicWolf

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet CrazyDemonicWolf!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

Hi! I am CrazyDemonicWolf, also known to others as CDW, Crazy, or Wolf! I have no idea why people leave out the Demonic but oh well!

A graduate from Scotland who recently just finished a course for BSC Honours in Audio Engineering, a passion that sprouted from my school days messing around in the assembly halls with the audio equipment. I love messing around with anything technical, taking it apart and putting it together, as well as messing around with coding and development engines such as Unreal Engine and Unity.

Hobbies now include running my own gaming community and streaming on Twitch every now and then. However games are definitely a true passion, playing all sorts from ARK: Survival Evolved, Raft, Atlas to games such as Fortnite, Apex Legends, COD: Warzone, Cold War and many more. However, ARK will always remain my favorite as it was one of the first games I started with when I got my first laptop. …Yes I ran Ark on a laptop, Don’t judge me! 🙂

How did you get started on your project?

I actually started off with a different project, well two to be exact. One was called Wolfblood Evolved as it was a small mod I wanted for friends so we could all have our own wolves colored and designed to our liking. However when that started to expand I ported it all over to a new mod called Crazy’s Crazy Dinos! It was around then when I started working for Ark: Eternal, per the recommendation of NanoDragon (another mod dev), as I was looking for some help in expanding my knowledge in the ARK dev kit.

I was super limited and working from tutorials from Exilog and the Official Ark Modding Community. This was around 5-6 years ago now! After getting to know the ARK dev kit more I started to expand my own dino mod again, learning a lot from LeutianKane as well as prome! It was around a year later when I left Ark: Eternal and moved to Gaia working for prome, learning more of the graph side while working alongside NanoDragon on my mods as well as his!

From there I discovered the newly added potions in Crazy’s Crazy Dinos were a hit and so I decided to publish them as a separate mod altogether! This was when Crazy’s Crazy Potions was born!

What is/has been your inspiration?

My inspiration? Well, that has to be everyone I have worked for or done work for in the modding community. I had never received such encouragement to continue my projects and get them to where they are today. prome has always been by my side helping me if I need it and supporting me. I could not thank him enough. Also my right-hand man currently, ThinkAaboutIt, AKA Shooter or ThinkingShooter, who I will admit I was a bad person to in the beginning but I cannot thank him enough for sticking by me and still helping me develop my potions mod into what it has become today.

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

This is most definitely not my first project haha. I have plenty of failed projects or discontinued ones as they were mods created when I first started modding. Crazy’s Crazy Dinos was the last failed project as it had to be discontinued after the Genesis 1 update, I was unable to fix a bug that caused my dev kit to crash as I was trying to upload updates.

I have no idea if that mod even still works but probably not! One of my favorite dinos where in there, the Rainbow Wyvern, But it is now lost until it makes its return in my secret upcoming project. But! As you could guess the failed mods crashed servers, broke dinos, I even remember one causing fish to fly… Yes, I broke everything in the beginning however I am definitely more developed in my skills now. I wish I could go back and restart how I began but mistakes were made and learned from. It’s the only way to develop and learn! But my achievement is the potions mod, being simple but helpful to the ARK community.

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

In the beginning, I didn’t, I slowly learned the ARK dev kit from scratch after watching tutorials from other modders. However, my main goal was to break it all and then fix it as this is the way I learn. I started with taking dinos like the Trike or the Dodo and looking at their code and blueprints to find out what the heck I was working with.

As I was watching and ripping things apart I started to understand and just go from there. In my 3rd year of University, it was actually ARK: Survival Evolved that helped me decide I wanted to branch off in my degree towards the gaming specialist side of audio engineering, which lead me to use Unreal Engine to develop sounds and small games.

The sound aspect was the most important side of it which also helped me develop boss music and other strange effects for my dinos and items, studying the boss music of ARK by Gareth Coker. Also looking at the atmosphere music in ARK to help improve my own little shooter tek game.

Using all of this helped me look at dinos and items in a different light. Coding wise, I had one up until 3 years ago when I started working for a YouTubers community, SideShow Ashley and TagBackTV, in which I developed a Discord bot for them to help with applications and moderations. It was then I found a passion for JavaScript and C++ coding!

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

Don’t make the same mistake I did, thinking this was going to be easy. I would consider myself slightly knowledgeable in tech but I thought because of that this would be a smooth ride. Oh boy, it wasn’t haha! But really the best thing you can do is join the ark modding community discord and ask questions! Ask them all no matter how silly they may seem. Just ask and you will get far.

Check all tutorials, anything that seems to be old still watch it. You never know what you could pick up from it! Source files as also super fun to wade through, I know one of my personal favorites is the Gaia mod files as that is where I picked up most of my graphing techniques. Also, check your computer requirements before. You will definitely need a beefy SSD and a good bit of ram! I ran the dev kit on an HHD before when I first started…. Yeah don’t do that… Unless you are prepared to leave your computer on for days and wait for it to load all the dev kit assets! SSD makes it easier but the first-time load will still take a few hours! So be prepared to be patient!

I wish I did but currently, everything is on hold. I update the potions mod as and when I can with new potions from the suggestions of the players, however, I do have plans for a new dino mod which will be placed around a different kind of elemental dino. But I am happy to say that this mod will be the mod in which my beautiful Rainbow Wyvern will be making its comeback and even maybe including a few fan favorites like the Nitrado King Rex and Elemental Dragon!

Anything you’d like to add?

Thank you to the ArkMod.net team for allowing me to do this! I love sharing my journey in the modding world as I hope I can help some people with this! To anyone starting out on their modding journey, if it is ARK: Survival Evolved, or Atlas I wish them all well and good luck to them all! I hope their journey is just as exciting and fruitful as mine was!

Interview with wowegoo

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet Raul, also known as wowegoo!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

44 years old from Spain. Interested in being a pro. I love music and all related to Hi-Fi, collector of some artists, and Unreal Engine passionate.

How did you get started on your project?

When first saw ARK I was like… wow! I love the massive playable landscapes so I go into with a 2009 pc in 2017 and even today my project is not finished. ARK is bigger than I can manage. I simply love it.

Antartika
Antartika

What is/has been your inspiration?

My inspiration was Scorched Earth. A counterpart in the Earth climate and I took Antarctic continent as today stills a big incognita in human history.

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

This is my first project in every related to videogames or whatever. I made this map learning in the way the Unreal Engine 4 and related software needed. I can say I start from 0.

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

No. But I just started in Core, a multiverse where people can jump from game to game. No cause I love it like ARK but cause I can get a bit of income.

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

I don’t have even for me, haha! Well, is a long run, an adventure. ARK is a massive game right now and I start to play just when the redwoods biome was on the way to be released on The Island. Now you have many different worlds to play where you feel more comfortable, in ways even developers don’t think of. I love ARK and the guys that made it deserves big respect from me. ARK Community Discord is your best tool if you are into this. Keep it 24/7 open and you have their amazing people always open to help.

Antartika

Antartika is a WIP map with the following specifications;

Size: Same as The Island but more space playable due to caves.
Completed: Map surface 100%. Underground 50%, Sea 50%. and some more to come!
Biomes: 10 by now. 1 custom
Caves: Tons. From very small rat holes where only a character can enter to big ones that have much access for all your dinos with water and are naturally protected.
Dinos: Most of all maps except the ones that do not fit properly (Titans, some TEK, etc.)
Resources: Planned to be on the map all, with some exceptions that can be covered with other resources. 90% done.
Weather: Own weather system adapted to Antartika. WIP.
Bosses: 5 in total, 4 bosses, and an end boss with their own arena. All artifacts are spread across the map, some still need a final spot.
100% compatible with other mods.
The Underworld, a massive underground area connected with other big explorable caves with artifacts. When finished, a player can cross the map underground.
Aurora effect at nights

Lore

Set in the Antarctic continent long, long ago, when not everything was frozen, Antartika offers a map, cold but beautiful for you. There are a lot of places to build your base and all available dinos as well as all resources.
You can build your base on the small latest areas that still not frozen or go into the snow and build your base where only the hardest dinos still living. Soon you can build your base in a sea bubble!.
Around map there are the skeletons of the giants of the past, take care! Some are traps. Others can help you to protect you and your dinos at early game.
Look for the “hot spots”. Little places spread all around the map were temperature is more comfortable but if you are skilled, go and get one of the amazing and coldest places to build your base with beautiful views all around.
To fight the bosses go to the pyramid. Inside you found the 6 pads. Remember that the pyramid door only allow the bigger dino able to fight the bosses, T-Rex. For other bigger dinos there are a teleporter out. 5 Pads are bosses.
To fight the endboss you need to defeat all other bosses in the 3 difficulties. Go to the deeps to find the rarest resources and dinos and don’t forget to get your artifacts. Enjoy!

Do you have any plans or spoilers for your project you’d like to share?

Yes. Antartika is on the final lap and soon you can play in its full glory. More caves to come. More dinos and the final touch are on the way and I hope to end it soon.

Anything you’d like to add?

Thank you for that opportunity to know us a bit more. Most of us are normal people working in our homes to give high-quality content for free. If you like natural landscapes to play ARK, consider Antartika as an option. A map that gonna push your limits in survival.

Interview with prome

Interview with prome

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet Andreas Hagström, also known as prome!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

I’m a 35 year young Swede, live with my dog and SO. I like watching hockey, playing games, coding(mostly web development), hiking, and fishing. Love horror- and sci-fi movies. I’m currently working as an IT teacher on a consultant basis for Folkuniversitetet(Google Translate; People’s University :P). In my spare time, I play floorball and football.

How did you get started on your project?

This particular project was something a friend of mine, FroggyMan, wanted to be made. It could be described as a tech-savvy hybrid mod as it uses assets from Zythara, Prometheus, Pandora, Foreworld Myth, and my own creations.

It has by far been the most fun project in ARK I’ve worked on. I guess it’s because no other of my projects was tech-oriented at all. And not to mention I’ve taken everything I learned from the past which equipped me better into making what I wanted. Granted, ARK Bionic didn’t last long as I was really fatigued before I started working on it, and time wasn’t on my side either as RL finally catch up with me big time at that point. So the project was only active for a couple of months(excluding the most recent update to add in Gen2-spawners).

ARK Bionic
ARK Bionic

What is/has been your inspiration?

Firstly, in regards to the world of ARK, my biggest initial inspiration was the mod, Annunaki Genesis. That was really a game-changer for me. When I started playing that I found some other players that enjoyed it as well, so long story short, we started a clan/guild called Poopraiders and played together and suddenly ARK became so much more enjoyable.

Secondly, the more I created and the more I learned, the funnier it got. Discovering new methods to achieve things. And not to forget how good it feel to be able to help others. That was also a gamechanger, both for the positive and for the negative.

During my peak ARK modding time, I got several inquiries asking for help each day, and in the end, it got too much and that’s when I decided that everything I make should be made open source for anyone to look at for help and inspiration. Thus ARKMod.Net was born.

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

No. I started working on ARK Comes Alive with Tbjubu2 2016. We parted ways and he left me the source files for that mod, which was very broken at the time. I fixed it up and was going to republish it, but for indifferences between us two, I chose to make a new mod instead, ARK Eternal.

After the foundation for ARK Eternal was done in march 2017 it was released and I got LeutianKane to join and we developed it together for a couple of years. During that time, contributors have come and gone. At some point, I realized that ARK Eternal was not my vision for ARK as it is very overpowered in terms of creature stats. So I gave ARK Eternal to LeutianKane to manage and I started on my next big ARK project, Gaia. Sometime later, LeutianKane needed to take over the ownership for ARK Eternal on the Steam Workshop so he could get it sponsored by WildCard, and ever since, I have not worked on it.

I started working on Gaia in July 2017 and the first playable test version was released in September 2017. This mod was more down to earth as I’d like to call it. Creatures weren’t overpowered compared to vanilla and one of the biggest aspects, if not the biggest, was to include a lot of quality of life things into it. Consumables, buildings, weapons, tools, etc, but still try to balance it around more mature and vanilla gameplay. I made 95% of it myself but had some people add their smaller contributions as well. I considered Gaia complete in mid-2020 but I have updated it 2 or 3 times after that to fix things that got broken by WildCard updates and to add new spawners.

During this period of time, I also made a bunch of smaller mods as well, most of them were either a request from players, a commission, or requests from other modders as I shared the source files with them. My Steam Workshop now has 97 mods, where around half of them are private. In mid-2020 I started working on ARK Bionic.

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

I started making simple websites in the late ’90s. Nothing fancy, just plain HTML. Gradually became better and better and during the years I have picked up some more coding skills like JS, PHP, MySQL, and a bit of C#.

I also made some Left 4 Dead 2 mods and co-managed one of the biggest modding communities back in the days.

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

Take your time. Baby steps in the beginning. Either look at finished source files or follow Zen Rowes modding series. That is a really good source for learning. Also, join one of the ARK modding communities discord-servers. There are tons of helpful people there.

ARK Bionic

ARK Bionic is a minor creature overhaul mod where the focus is on TEK/tech creatures with special abilities. With a Bionic tier, a Mechanical tier, AI tier, and bosses.

The basic “Bionic” tier is a hybrid between robot and creature, creating enhanced dinosaurs with artificial body parts, especially electromechanical ones. Hence, you are not riding them as regular ARK have you do. You control them, and no saddles can be used on them. They can be knocked out and tamed but will only eat Bionic Kibble in the process.

The “Mechanical” tier only uses an organic brain, the rest is purely mechanized. These creatures can not be tamed, you’ll need to kill one and hope it drops a blueprint for an unassembled version that you can craft yourself. You don’t ride these either, but control them from within inside just as “Bionic” creatures.

The “AI” tier is a hybrid as well, where the Overseer harvested bodies from fallen survivors and enhanced them with mechanical parts. These can be knocked out and tamed and will eat the same as a wild Raptor.

The “Bosses” tier is an extremely strong tier that can not be tamed. They are docile and won’t attack unless attacked first. They only drop banners as a cosmetic trophy for defeating them.

Do you have any plans or spoilers for your project you’d like to share?

No – All my mods are considered finished and source files for all of them are available for anyone to fiddle with.

Anything you’d like to add?

I’d like to extend my thanks to everyone that in some way has helped me during this wild ride. Everything from helping me rig a new custom creature, someone helping with graphing and replication in the beginning, guest modders that have made small contributions, other modders I have collaborated with, testers that have taken their time to test my shit and make sure it works before public release, my awesome community managers on my Discord-servers, people that have submitted ideas, suggestions, and bug reports, people that have streamed or uploaded gameplay/spotlights of my mods to YouTube,  and obviously all players that have used my mods.

I could make a huge list with names but I’ll most likely forget half of them. But I do want to give special thanks to these wonderful people,  in no particular order,
Delanne, CrazyDemonicWolf, Kane, NanoDragon, LeutianKane, Blunder & Pavilon.

Thanks

Interview with Malinja

Interview with Malinja

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet Malin, also known as Malinja!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

My name is Malin, I’m 30 years old and I come from Norway. I’m a single mom of 2 kids and spend most of my time being a mom. I also play a lot of PC games like ARK, Fortnite, PUBG, and Overwatch. I also like to go on trips outdoors and make food.

How did you get started on your projects?

I played a lot of ARK and decided to download the ARK Devkit. I wanted to make my own dinosaurs. Then I started reading tutorials online. Also got tons of help from my friends Pikkon, the developer of Primal Fear, and from prome, the developer of Gaia.

What is/has been your inspiration?

My inspiration has been my favorite mod Primal Fear and the idea of making something cool on my own.

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

This is my second project. Also had a little mod called Gondwana. Learned a lot since then and started working on Parados instead.

ARK Parados
ARK Parados

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

Very little to be honest. Learned basically everything from guides, from Pikkon and from prome. Used to run a little blog, but that’s about it.

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

You need a lot of patience, a good PC and testing everything is the key to a good project.

Parados

Parados is a massive dino mod with a wide variety of different creatures, armor, structures, and other items! The creatures are sorted into different tiers, from the basic tiers like “Neolithic”, through the mid-tiers like “Flaming”, “Frozen” and “Wicked” all the way up to the high “Promeus” Tier with its Tameable bosses. Later on, there will be added endgame bosses into Parados (This is a work in progress).

Parados means “Magic”. I am inspired by the mystical world, and I love to add particles and special attacks to my dinos. Some of the dinos themselves are Magic as well and will create useful resources when tamed. Some of them may also evolve into something bigger if you have the right item.

All information can be found on the Parados website here.

Do you have any plans or spoilers for your project you’d like to share?

Parados has been quiet for a while, but I’m planning to do a big update this fall. Already started working on it.

Thanks

Interview with Jordanisgreat

Interview with Jordanisgreat

Today we’re giving you a little peek into an ARK modders life. Let’s meet Jordan York Gregory, also known as Jordanisgreat!

Tell us a little bit about yourself. Age, where you’re from. Interests, hobbies, etc.

I have been modding since I was 12 years old in 2016 (I am 17 now and will be 18 on November 7th) I love dinosaurs, Sharks, and Dragons and I love video games like Halo, ARK, Battlefront 2, and more. I am from Ontario Canada.

How did you get started on your projects?

I started modding ARK because in the past I made Minecraft shark mods to add sharks to Minecraft. I wanted to add Jurassic world creatures to ark since I loved JWTG at the time and played it like crazy. That started the great journey to making my ark mods. The main 4 mods you will find in my collection are DragonARK, JurassicARK, Saurians Evolved, and KatianARK.

What is/has been your inspiration?

Jurassic Ark started out as a mod that added hybrids from JWTG and had an ARK take on them.

DragonARK was something I wanted to do because after I had a personal issue happen and I had gone to a hospital in 2017 I fell in love with dragons. I wanted to add dragons I found in this how-to-draw dragon book and the hospital staff printed out pictures of Rock Drakes and stuff for me to draw and I started making a Water Wyvern.

For Saurians Evolved a friend of mine, sid, made the original first mod and I offered to help him update it for a sequel, and like with most of my collabs I did all the work without the person I was collaborating with. I did most of it and it became kind of my own thing and then I got help from many other mod creators such as hydragonofdeath, gigaraptor, prome, trainspotting vagabond, and more.

For KaitanARK it was just a mod that was used for commissioned Kaiju’s on Fiverr that ended up becoming a personal project because I and hydragonofdeath loved the mod so much we made our own creatures for it.

I have other mods too but they are either DLC’s or standalone commissions for my orders on Fiverr.

Is this your first ARK-related project? Have you worked on anything similar before?

My first ARK-related project was Jurassic Ark. Before that it was just sort of other games I tried to get into modding but never could, like Minecraft shark mods and Terraria.

After modding ARK I started to make Halo mods. I made a Halo 3 ODST mod, I made a Battlefront 2 mod. Hell, I even make animations in SFM and even Unreal Engine FNAF fan games and Sonic fan games with all the modding skills I learned over the years.

Outside of the ARK world, have you any other experience with any type of modding or coding?

Like I said before I have done stuff for Minecraft, Halo, Battlefront, SFM, and UE4. My most successful even more than my ARK mods are the Five Nights at Fredbear’s games. They have such a big audience and I have to work on them sometimes but ARK modding is my main job at the moment too.

Do you have any tips and tricks for other people that either are doing this or want to get into it?

I suggest watching modding tutorials. I got to edit and re-release the updated version of mine (the old one is gone due to my old channel being falsely taken down) or just asking me cause I’ll always be able to help with any creature-related stuff. Or even join the modding discord for help!

Do you have any plans or spoilers for your project you’d like to share?

Well. I have such a big list I probably can’t put it here. I dream a lot and I always have so many ideas. I will give you the rundown.

DragonARK is gonna get a massive update that adds a lot of new variants of dragons. I am gonna add Perfect Chaos from Sonic Adventure into the mod cause why not?

Saurians Evolved 2 is getting tons of fixes and updates that will help make it into a better mod. I plan on adding new food like rice. Also, guns, armor, and I will be expanding on arks vehicles to add more. Very Halo-inspired stuff.

Jurassic Ark will be getting updates to fix things and make it good.

My Fiverr commissions will be coming out more and more for people to play around with. Such as SCP and Godzilla.

Finally, The main big thing is, Saurians Evolved Primordial. Completely custom creatures that all serve different uses. This will be my best mod yet and I cannot wait to release it.

Anything you’d like to add?

I would like to thank everyone who has helped me. I don’t think I ever got the chance to credit them cause I am not active outside of Discord on my Steam pages. Thanks to prome, Hydragonofdeath/ghdoirah, Trainspotting Vagabond, Stupid Sid, Giga Raptor, Rexcore, Unknown, UGZ, Mystic Academy, Rogue, Shoplifter, Lord nordic, Skully, Denise, Red Dragon, r2-d3po, The canadian thats secruly amercian, DakoTako, Doomguy, Savag3Calib3r, EverynightXriot, AxeMan, Mister Ecks, barroth and all my Fiverr customers for all helping me in some way or form.

I might be forgetting some people and that’s only because my journey has been years long and I have been very good. I hope that you enjoy this interview. I am glad that I can share my stuff as at times I forget to really interact properly due to how busy I am. I am glad to spend my time writing this.

Thanks
